ABOUT JAY
Jay Rodríguez is a textile designer from Puerto Rico. Her interest in films led her to attain a Bachelor’s Degree in Audiovisual Communication from the University of Puerto Rico (UPR). In the hopes of continuing her education in film, she went on to attend Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) where her life changed completely when she discovered the world of Fibers. After completing her degree and, fascinated by all that she had learned, Jay decided to take her knowledge back to her loved homeland. She, currently, designes and produces work for her brand, as well as commissioned pieces, from her studio in Puerto Rico.
ABOUT THE BRAND
This project was born in 2017 while Jay was studying in Savannah, Georgia. Rodríguez decided to use her name because it was a way to pay tribute to where she came from. A creator from Puerto Rico.
The Jay Rodríguez brand gives a Contemporary twist to traditional techniques, such as weaving, among others. After the Industrial Revolution the perception of textiles -and almost all the processes related to it- changed. Now, in our time, these techniques and processes are often seen as hobbies instead of real, and valuable work. These techniques also have therapeutic effects that are beneficial to our health. This brand’s mission is to promote the education, as well as employment, of these techniques in order to keep them alive, and pass them on to future generations.
Every product is designed and made by Jay Rodríguez in her studio, located in Puerto Rico.
